Newsies

Our last full day in NYC with lots of shopping and ending up at the Musical Newsies.  We started by going to the Ticket Booth in Brooklyn for half-price tickets to Newsies.  We then went to Atlantic Station for some last minute buying and then to lunch at Vegetarian Ginger on Montague in Brooklyn Heights.  Ends up we ate there before and its excellent.  We sat in the window and had a fun lunch.  Then it was on to the Fortunato Bakery in Williamsburg where we picked up some treats to bring home.  The marzipan fruits are fantastic.  Our final stop was Astor Liquors for some NYC gin to bring home.

By then it was time for dinner and Newsies.  We started at Eataly but it was too intense on a Friday night.  So instead we found Otto Nove, a traditional Italian Restaurant nearby.  Excellent with fast service.  Then in a pouring rain we went uptown to the show.

Newsies won four Tony Awards last year and is excellent.  The music and dancing were superb.  And it had a good story about child labor abuses and the movement to change that.  Alan Menken who wrote the music (and who has won many Oscar and Tony awards) is the brother of Leah, our cousin-in-law.

Here's a couple pictures from that day - we really just ran around - not much picture taking.
