Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike

Rose and Nicanor came with us to this Tony Award winner - the best play of 2012/2013.  This is a great play to see.  For those of us that live in NorCal - the play is coming to Berkeley Rep in the Fall.

The NY cast included David Hyde Pierce , Sigourney Weaver , Billy Magnussen , Kristine Nielsen , Genevieve Angelson  and Shalita Grant.  The whole cast is excellent.  Sigourney Weaver leaves the cast next month.   Glad we got to see with the original Broadway cast all still in it.

The play is funny and each character has a spot where they shine in their monologue.  Masha talks about shared rational experiences and uses Topo Gigio, who talked to his own hand on The Ed Sullivan Show as an example.  His monologue particularly  resonated with us.

Several of the play's characters are named for the characters in plays by Anton Chekhov, and the play's setting in a cherry orchard and the possible loss of the family home are also from Chekhov works.

Before dinner Rose and Nic prepared a wonderful Fondue dinner and after walking back from the play we had Pakistani treats we had picked up earlier in the day in Jackson Heights (another Blog post) while playing Hearts and drinking Nic's Home Brew - this one coffee infused.... soooo  good.
