Our favorite breakfast spot for years has been Queenie's in Elk. In fact Queenie's opened about the same time we bought our house. Lynn (Queenie) gives much to the community. Ask Queenie for a donation and she always comes through. At the Elk Day's event we bid and won a breakfast for a year at Queenie's and never missed a one.
Anyway - Lynn is ill with cancer and the community got together to help with the expenses. A Royal Brunch was held. We're guessing 300 or so people came. We heard it grossed over $10,000. All the radio stations had public service announcements. The media came. When Lynn came in the room there was a standing ovation.
Rabbi Margaret was co-chair. A great many people volunteered. We went away feeling what a wonderful community we live in.
