Had a great party at our house on New Year's Eve. It is a party that has been going for 30 years here in Irish Beach and we wanted it to continue. Went through 35 wines plus bottles of the hard stuff and beer. People all brought food and the dishes were great.

Rose and Nicanor's short visit
Rose and Nicanor pulled in after midnight from a Nevada City wedding and beer making with Nicanor's sister in Sacramento.
Next day we walked on the beach and hung out tasting beer and playing games. Next morning they left for New Year's Eve in Sacramento.

Grange Crab Feed
Our annual Grange Crab Feed really is the crab feed on the coast in terms of food. Many have told us so. Its really unlimited fresh local crab and lots more including seafood chowder.
We raised the price more than we should and therefore the number of people attending was down. The crab feed did have 300+ and still made money. Susan, like other years, was successful in getting beer and wine donations and items of the silent auction.
We ate and we ate and we took crab home.

Cypress Abby Hike
Cypress Abby was the latest parcel purchased by the Mendocino Land Trust and the Bureau of Land Management on the Stornetta Public Lands. With the purchase of that parcel there's now continuous public land from our house to the Point Arena cove, some 15 miles. We took this hike on the new stretch. Really beautiful. The cows moved for Almas at the start.

A wonderful weekend in Sacramento
We had a wonderful weekend in Sacramento. On Friday night we stayed with our dear friends Andrew and Sonya. Sonya and Susan went to Bunko while Andrew and Gary watched the Kings lose while drinking great Pinot Noir. We also bought lottery tickets for the Mega jackpot but didn't win. In the morning Sonya and Susan walked. We went to this great breakfast - Taylor joined us which was super.
We then went to our neighbor Barbara for the family tree trimming. Great food and visit. Watching Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol with a sing along for a treasure.
We visited Morrie and Karol. it was Morrie's 90th B-Day this week. Morrie still writes Wee Pals each day - says it keeps him going. We have known Morrie and Karol for almost 30 years and it was sooooo good to see them.
We went back to our wonderful friends Henry and Diane where we played Mahong.
Next morning we had made a reservation at a restaurant for brunch and invited ll our friends. And they all showed up. What a wonderful way to see everyone.
Then we left stopping at several stores along the way before returning home. What a grand time.

The Silent Movie - The Last Command
Our Monday Film Club at the Arena Theater...
Most silent movies we have seen are more slapstick. The Last Command was a powerful movie about the Russian Revolution. The film has been remastered with a great music score. It made us want to see more silent movies and we have borrowed one from Gary and Allen.
The Last Command is a 1928 silent film directed by Josef von Sternberg, and written by John F. Goodrich and Herman J. Mankiewiczfrom a story by Lajos BirĂ³.[1] Star Emil Jannings won the very firstAcademy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performances in this film and The Way of All Flesh, the only year that multiple roles were considered. In 2006, the film was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. The supporting cast includes Evelyn Brent and William Powell.

Hanukkah and museum with Aviva and Mathew
Our plane was late arriving from New York. Aviva and Mathew met us at the airport and we went to In and Out Burger. We were all too tired to open gifts so we went to bed.
Mathew made great pancakes and all sorts of goodies were pulled out for breakfast. We lite the Menorah (actually two) and opened gifts. Then we walked through Golden Gate Park to the de Young Museum where there's a fantastic David Hockney exhibit. A must see. The three pictures at the bottom are from the Museum's website as no pictures of the exhibit were allowed. First, our pictures from the visit.
